Hindu marriage harmonizes two individuals. It is also an important social institution. Marriages in India are between two families, rather two individuals. For a Hindu marriage is essential, not only for begetting a son in order to discharge his debt to the ancestors, but also for performance of other religious and spiritual duties. The institution of marriage is considered sacred even by those who view it as a civil contract.

That it is a sacrament union, which means that marriage is not to gratify one’s physical needs; but is primarily meant for the performance of religious and spiritual duties.a sacramental union implies that a marriage once entered cannot be dissolved on any ground whatsoever; and , a sacramental union also means that it is a union of soul, body and mind. It is a union not only for this life, but for all lives to come. The union is not only for this world, but also for other worlds.

Traditionally, elders arrange marriages. Careful consideration is taken to ensure compatibility, and the respective horoscopes of prospective partners are compared. These arrangements are primarily for the benefit of the couple, but there are sometimes more selfish interests such as family prestige, inherited wealth, and so on, which have tarnished the reputation of such matching. Nonetheless, there is evidence that such marriages endure for longer than those in the West, where the liberty of the individual is the primary concern.

In recent years, with the onset of dating culture in India, arranged marriages & horoscope analysis have seen a marginal decrease, with prospective brides and grooms preferring to choose a spouse on their own and not necessarily only the one whom their parents find agreeable; this has been more pronounced in urban and suburban areas than rural regions.

Many marriages are now arranged with the help of advertisements in papers and magazines.
Increasingly, modern Hindus prefer to have complete freedom in their choice of marriage partner.

Today the culture of marriage among Hindus is such new concept of Love-Arrange Marriage or Arrange-Love Marriage.
The primary roles for the women are still “marriage” and “motherhood.” Marriage confers a positive status to the woman which is greatly enhanced by motherhood.Marriage brings security and dignity to Indian women. Unmarried status in India is stigma especially for females.

Marriage is the greatest event in an individual’s life and brings with it many responsibilities. Mental disorders can either result in marital discord or may be caused by marital disharmony. In predisposed individuals, marriage can cause mental-health problems. An ICMR and DST study on severe mental distress also found the highest common distress was found in housewives, in both rural and urban samples. For the modern people who say…..
It’s not as necessary as the Indian society makes it to be. Life is still going to be as good, even if you’re unmarried.

So, such people can remind of one saying….
We are more effective in working as a team versus working as individuals.
